What This Index Is, and What It Is Not
Digital Marketing Cost Report: This is a compiled benchmark, not a statistical index. We did not survey agencies or collect invoices, and there is no year-on-year series behind it. What we did was read a large number of 2026 Indian pricing guides, overlay their ranges, and mark the zone where most of them agree.
Two honest limits. First, most published guides are written by agencies that sell the service, so they reflect what is advertised, not necessarily what clients finally pay. Second, we have not applied an inflation factor for 2027. The ranges are 2026 pricing, presented as the planning base for next year’s budget.
Everything that follows labelled “Our view” is opinion. It is reasoned from the data and from how production and content work are costed. It is not a claim about the results of any particular client.
Digital Marketing Cost: The Number Everyone Wants Is the Wrong Number
Ask five Indian agencies what SEO costs and you will hear ₹15,000, ₹35,000, ₹60,000, ₹1.5 lakh and ₹3 lakh. All five can be honest. The services behind those prices are not the same service.
A monthly fee is a statement about people-hours and scope. It says how many articles, how many pages fixed, how many hours of a senior person’s attention, and how much reporting. When two quotes differ by 4x, the first question is not “who is cheaper”. It is “what is missing from the cheaper one”.
The same is true for every service in this index. So we have organised the benchmarks by business size and scope, and we show the spread between sources, because the spread is itself information.
How We Segment Business Size
Revenue is a weak way to size a marketing budget, because scope drives cost more than turnover does. We use four scope-based segments and add revenue only where a published source offers it.
| Segment | Typical Profile |
|---|---|
| Micro / local | One location or one product line, a small website, a local customer base |
| Small and mid-sized (SMB) | A small team, one or two cities or several service lines, a site of moderate size |
| Growth | D2C, e-commerce or B2B with national reach, a larger catalogue, active competition |
| Enterprise | Multiple brands, markets or languages, complex sites, governance and reporting needs |
For reference, one 2026 guide suggests monthly SEO budgets of ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 for micro businesses under ₹20 lakh in annual revenue, ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 for small businesses between ₹20 lakh and ₹5 crore, and ₹1.5 lakh or more above ₹50 crore. That is a useful sanity check, not a rule.

The Digital Marketing Cost Index at a Glance
All figures are monthly agency or specialist fees in rupees, before 18% GST, and exclude ad spend, tool licences and creative production unless stated. Where we mark a cell “our planning view”, published sources stop and we are extrapolating.

| Google Ads management (fee only) | ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 | ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 | ₹35,000 to ₹90,000, or 10% to 15% of spend | Custom; often under 10% of spend |
| Social media management | ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 | ₹40,000 to ₹75,000 | ₹75,000 to ₹1.5 lakh | ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh+ |

SEO Retainer Pricing in India
SEO is the service where published ranges disagree most, so here is how the sources line up.
| Source (2026) | What It Reports |
|---|---|
| Webhorse, summarising several agency price lists | Most small and mid-sized businesses pay ₹15,000 to ₹60,000; enterprise programmes ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh or more |
| Brainguru | Anything from ₹5,000 freelance gigs to ₹5 lakh enterprise retainers |
| Digital Hangover | Starter ₹25,000 to ₹45,000; growth ₹50,000 to ₹1.2 lakh; enterprise ₹1.5 lakh and above |
| Nico Digital | Sustained retainers start near ₹35,000 for small business work and run to ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh+ for growth and enterprise |
| Aarmus Marketing | ₹15,000 for small local businesses to ₹2 lakh+ for competitive e-commerce |
A one-time audit is usually priced separately, with one guide giving ₹5,000 to ₹75,000 for most small and mid-sized sites. Globally, GoodFirms reports the monthly retainer as the dominant SEO pricing model, used by 78.2% of agencies in its survey.
What the retainer should buy. Technical fixes, on-page work, a defined number of content pieces, link or digital PR effort where relevant, and reporting tied to enquiries, not just rankings.
Our view. We think of an SEO retainer as a payroll question. At ₹15,000 a month the fee is below what one junior writer costs an employer in a month (one 2026 guide puts the true monthly cost of an in-house writer at ₹30,000 to ₹40,000). That fee cannot fund strategy, content, technical work and links at once. It can fund a narrow slice done properly, such as Google Business Profile management and basic on-page fixes for a local clinic. It cannot honestly promise more.
We also distrust any quote that lists “50 backlinks a month” as a deliverable. Link counts are easy to promise and easy to fake. Ask for the pages that will be improved, the topics that will be covered, and the evidence the agency will report.
Google Ads Management Fees in India
The management fee (one of the key Digital Marketing Cost component) is separate from the money you pay Google. Published guides describe three models: a flat monthly retainer, a percentage of ad spend, and a base fee plus performance element.
| Monthly Ad Spend | Typical Management Fee | Common Structure |
|---|---|---|
| Under ₹50,000 | ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 | Flat monthly fee |
| ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh | ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 | Flat fee, or 15% to 20% of spend |
| ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh | ₹35,000 to ₹50,000 | Percentage of spend, often 10% to 15% |
| Above ₹10 lakh | Custom | Percentage, usually under 10% |
Source for the spend-tier structure: GIT Infosys, 2026. Other guides give wider ranges, for example ₹15,000 to ₹1.5 lakh at Vedwix and ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 at Global Info Edge.
Several points are consistent across guides. The usual percentage is 10% to 20% of spend, smaller accounts sit at the higher end, and many agencies set a minimum fee. Practical minimum media spend to learn anything useful is commonly given as ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month. One-off account setup or audit is quoted at ₹15,000 to ₹75,000 by at least one agency. Guides also remind buyers that Google charges 18% GST on ad spend, so the real monthly bill is higher than spend plus fee.
A worked example from one 2026 guide: ₹50,000 ad spend, ₹9,000 GST and a ₹25,000 management fee make a total of ₹84,000.
Our view. Percentage fees have a built-in incentive to raise your budget. That is not always wrong, since larger accounts do take more work, but it should make you ask who benefits when spend goes up. For accounts below roughly ₹1.5 lakh a month, we prefer a flat fee. Above that, a percentage with a cap or step-down is reasonable.
Judge the account on cost per enquiry or cost per customer, not on cost per click. Treat any quoted percentage improvement from “professional management” as sales language unless the agency shows how it was measured. Several guides quote such figures. We have not repeated them, because none shows its working.

Social Media Marketing Pricing in India
Social media pricing is wide because “management” can mean a few templated posts or a full content studio.
| Package | Typical Monthly Fee | What It Usually Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic organic | ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 | One to two platforms, a content calendar, around 8 to 16 posts, a few reels, basic community management |
| Growth | ₹40,000 to ₹75,000 | Two to three platforms, more video, active community management, light paid social |
| Premium or full service | ₹75,000 to ₹1.5 lakh | High-production content, managed paid social, influencer coordination, a dedicated strategist |
| Large full-service agency | ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh+ | Multi-platform team handling strategy, design, video and reporting |
Ranges overlay Digital Hangover, Global Info Edge, upGrowth and Digital Marketing Disorders, all 2026. For paid social, one guide gives management at 15% to 20% of ad spend or ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 flat, with ad budget billed separately.
For writing alone, a 2026 guide reports social content writing packages at ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 a month for 15 to 30 posts.
Our view. Production quality is the real price driver. A template post and a shot-and-edited reel are different products, and the guides agree that reels and original video cost more and perform better than templated posts.
This is where a production company has a bias worth declaring. We think the economics often favour shooting once and cutting many. A single well-planned shoot day can produce a batch of short clips, quotes and behind-the-scenes cuts for weeks of posting, which is usually cheaper per asset than commissioning fresh content every week. If you want a figure for the shoot itself, our corporate video production cost report breaks down day rates and budget bands.
We also agree with the contrarian position some agencies now take: posting less, with more care, can be worth paying more for. Volume packages that promise 30 posts a month are easy to sell and hard to love.
Content Production Costs in India
In Digital Marketing Cost, Content pricing is where the commodity versus non-commodity distinction matters most, so we will use it.
Google’s guidance on helpful, people-first content describes commodity content as material based on common knowledge that could come from anyone, such as a generic list of tips, and non-commodity content as work with unique expert or experience-based insight. Pricing guides rarely separate the two, but cost does.
| Content Type | Published Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic blog post, 500 to 800 words | ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 | Keyword placement, meta tags, basic formatting |
| Blog and content marketing, per piece | ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 | Range across depth and length |
| Per-word writing rates | ₹0.50 to ₹7 per word | Reported for social content writing |
| In-house writer, true monthly cost | ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 | One 2026 estimate, about ₹4 to ₹5 lakh a year with benefits |
Sources: Digital Sky 360 and Writer on Rent, 2026.
Our view. Per-word pricing tells you almost nothing. A ₹3,000 article and a ₹15,000 article can both run 1,200 words. What differs is who contributed the knowledge, whether any original data or first-hand experience went in, and whether an editor challenged the draft.
Generative AI has pushed the cost of commodity content close to zero. That does not make content free. It moves the value to the parts a model cannot supply: a practitioner’s judgement, a real example, a number someone actually collected, and an editor who will cut the weak paragraph. Those cost time from experienced people, so we expect the premium end of the range to hold or rise while the bottom collapses.
Our advice is to budget fewer pieces, at a higher standard, and to pay for the expert’s time as a line item. One article that a customer or a journalist would cite is worth more than ten that read like every other result.
Video, audio and design assets are separate from these figures.
Email Marketing Costs in India
Email marketing has two cost layers inside entire Digital Marketing Cost stack: software and execution. The software (tool) is relatively cheap. The real expense lies in the work behind the campaigns.
| Item | Published Range | Source Note |
|---|---|---|
| Basic campaigns (up to 4 emails, up to 5,000 subscribers) | ₹5,000 to ₹12,000 a month | Mayank Digital Labs, 2026 |
| Standard with automation (drips, segmentation) | ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month | Mayank Digital Labs |
| Advanced CRM plus email (Zoho, HubSpot, full funnel) | ₹30,000 to ₹80,000 a month | Mayank Digital Labs |
| Email marketing for small businesses | ₹3,500 to ₹25,000 a month | RankMeTop |
| Large enterprises | ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh+ a month | RankMeTop |
| Agency work, plus tools outside the retainer | About ₹20,000 a month for the work; CRM implementation from ₹60,000 one-time | The Mediaverse, September 2026 |
Tool costs are small by comparison. One 2026 comparison puts Zoho Campaigns at about ₹150 a month for 2,000 contacts. The same source estimates Mailchimp’s Essentials plan at around ₹6,500 a month for 25,000 contacts against about ₹2,000 for an equivalent Zoho Campaigns plan.
Our view. Email is the most underbought channel relative to its cost. Because the software is cheap, many businesses assume the whole programme is cheap. It is not. The costs are list quality, deliverability, segmentation, copy and design. A ₹5,000 package that sends a monthly newsletter to a purchased list is not email marketing.
We would start with a simple, well-segmented welcome and nurture flow on an inexpensive tool before any large platform purchase.
Marketing Automation Costs in India
Marketing automation prices in three parts: one-time setup, monthly tools and an optional retainer.
| Item | Published Range | Source Note |
|---|---|---|
| First high-impact workflow | From about ₹15,000 | Yovance, 2026 |
| Foundation: CRM setup plus several workflows and a nurture sequence | About ₹45,000 | Yovance |
| Full lead engine with AI qualification | About ₹1 lakh | Yovance |
| Tool stack for most small and mid-sized businesses | ₹2,000 to ₹20,000 a month | Yovance |
| WhatsApp automation | ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 a month | Mayank Digital Labs |
| Zoho Marketing Automation | About US$19, $29 or $59 per 1,000 contacts a month, by plan, plus 18% GST | Zonic Tech Solutions, 2026 |
| HubSpot Marketing Hub Professional | About $800 a month on annual billing, plus a one-off $3,000 onboarding fee | DClouds, 2026 |
Prices from third-party summaries. Check current vendor pricing before budgeting.
Our view. Do not buy a platform before you have a process. The software floor is low, and the real cost sits in setup, data cleanup and the thinking about who gets which message and when. A US-dollar platform also carries currency exposure, which matters when you budget for 2027.
For most Indian SMEs, a rupee-billed tool and one well-built workflow is a better first step than an enterprise suite with features that will sit unused.

The Costs Outside the Fee
Most budget surprises come from lines that never appear in the headline number.
| Cost | What to Know |
|---|---|
| GST | Most guides advise adding 18% to agency fees. On ads, Google charges GST on spend. Confirm treatment with your accountant |
| Ad spend | Paid to Google or Meta, separate from the management fee |
| Tool licences | SEO tools, email platforms, CRM and automation are often billed separately |
| Creative production | Photography, video, design and animation are usually outside a social or ads retainer |
| Landing pages and website changes | Often quoted as separate projects |
| Setup and audit | One-off fees before ongoing work starts |
| Contract terms | Minimum terms, notice periods and reporting access |
Illustrative Monthly Budgets by Business Size
These are examples built from the middle of the bands above. They are not client cases and not recommendations. Figures are before GST.
| Item | Micro / Local | SMB | Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO | ₹20,000 | ₹40,000 | ₹90,000 |
| Google Ads management fee | ₹10,000 (on ₹30,000 spend) | ₹25,000 (on ₹1 lakh spend) | ₹60,000 (on ₹4 lakh spend) |
| Social media management | ₹18,000 | ₹50,000 | ₹90,000 |
| Content | None | ₹24,000 (4 articles) | ₹60,000 (8 articles) |
| Email and CRM | ₹5,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹45,000 |
| Automation tools | None | None | ₹15,000 |
| Fees subtotal | ₹53,000 | ₹1,59,000 | ₹3,60,000 |
| Ad spend | ₹30,000 | ₹1,00,000 | ₹4,00,000 |
| Monthly total before GST | ₹83,000 | ₹2,59,000 | ₹7,60,000 |
Few businesses should buy every line at once. Most should start with two or three and add as results and capacity allow.
Where We Would Put the First Rupee
This is opinion, and it depends on the business.
- Local service business with existing demand: Google Business Profile and local SEO first, then a small Google Ads budget with proper conversion tracking.
- New D2C brand: Strong product content and video first, then paid social and email capture. SEO compounds, but it is slow.
- B2B company with a long sales cycle: SEO and expert-led content, plus email nurture, with modest paid search for high-intent terms.
- Established brand entering a new region: Regional-language content and creative before spending heavily on media.

Planning Notes for 2027
- Add a buffer for dollar-billed tools. Platforms priced in US dollars can move your costs even when agency fees do not.
- Plan for GST on everything. Build it into the budget, not the footnotes.
- Expect cost pressure to shift from volume to judgement. Routine content and reporting are getting cheaper to produce. Strategy, original material and quality control are not.
- Ask how AI is used in your retainer. The right answer is neither “never” nor “for everything”. It is “for these tasks, with this human review”.
- Insist on outcome reporting. Rankings, clicks and followers are inputs. Enquiries, qualified leads and customers are outcomes.
How to Evaluate a Quote
- Is the scope written as deliverables and hours, or as adjectives?
- Who will actually do the work, and how much senior time is included?
- What is excluded: tools, ad spend, creative, GST, landing pages?
- What is the contract term and how do you exit?
- Who owns the accounts, data and content?
- How is success reported, and does the agency show a method for measuring improvement?
- Does a very low price come with a scope that can plausibly be delivered?
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does SEO cost per month in India in 2026-2027?
Published 2026 guides place most small and mid-sized retainers between ₹15,000 and ₹60,000, with growth programmes from about ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh and enterprise work from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh or more. Scope, competition and site size explain most of the spread.
What do Google Ads agencies charge in India?
Management is commonly a flat monthly fee, often ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 for small accounts, or 10% to 20% of ad spend for larger ones. Ad spend is paid separately to Google, and GST applies. Ask what the fee actually covers.
What is a sensible minimum Google Ads budget?
Guides commonly cite ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month of media spend as the floor for learning anything useful, and ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 for competitive service categories. Below that, a management fee can consume a large share of the budget.
How much does social media management cost in India?
Basic organic packages run roughly ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 a month, growth packages ₹40,000 to ₹75,000, and premium or full-service packages ₹75,000 and above. Price follows content volume, video production and whether paid social is included.
How much should I pay for a blog article?
Published ranges run from about ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 per piece. Basic 500 to 800 word posts sit at the low end. Expert-led, research-heavy work costs more because it takes practitioner time, not because it is longer.
Is email marketing expensive in India?
Tools are cheap, with some Indian platforms charging a few hundred rupees a month for small lists. The cost is in strategy, list quality, copy and automation. Small-business packages are commonly quoted between ₹5,000 and ₹30,000 a month.
How much does marketing automation cost?
Published setup prices run from about ₹15,000 for a first workflow to roughly ₹1 lakh for a fuller lead engine, plus tool subscriptions of about ₹2,000 to ₹20,000 a month for most SMEs. Enterprise platforms cost considerably more.
Do these prices include GST?
No. Most guides advise adding 18% GST to agency fees, and Google charges GST on ad spend. Confirm treatment with your accountant, and ask agencies to quote clearly with and without tax.
Are cheap digital marketing packages always bad?
No. A narrow scope at a low price can be perfectly sensible, such as basic local listings or a few posts a month. The problem is a low price attached to a wide promise. Check that the hours and scope make the outcome plausible.
Will AI make digital marketing cheaper in 2027?
It is making routine production cheaper, such as drafts, variants and reporting. It does not remove the cost of strategy, original insight and review. We expect prices to compress at the commodity end and hold at the expert end.

Methodology and Sources
Method. We reviewed 2026 Indian pricing guides for each service, noted each stated range, and marked the overlapping zone as the planning band. Where sources stop, cells are labelled as our planning view. Third-party tool prices change often and should be verified with vendors.
Limitations. Most sources are agency-published pricing pages, which reflect advertised rather than transacted prices. Business-size segments are our own, built on scope, not a standard definition. No inflation factor was applied for 2027.
